The Thirst
Inspired by Sting's song 'Moon Over Bourbon Street' Gavin then discovered that the track was inspired by Anne Rice's novel, 'Interview With The Vampire'- which he then read, and loved. The idea of Vampirism as some kind of ailment- and this at a time when AIDS was first in the news, inspired this interesting take on the genre.
Writing an original script, this was his first-ever solo show, directed by David Glass in the mid-1980's. It premiered at The Unity Theatre, Liverpool.
Not so long afterwards, Gavin was approached by The Leicester Haymarket Theatre, who wanted an alternative production to the Pantomime in the main house.
As a Studio production then, Gavin reworked the show for a cast of four, including himself in the smallest role, and as Director.
It ran for six weeks over Christmas and the New Year, and frankly, garnered a 'Marmite' reaction - audience members loved or hated it!
As an experience overall, however, it remains one of his favourite 'past productions'- both for the learning curve at the time, and the show overall.
